Daniel Ricciardo won perhaps one of the most exciting Grand Prix so far this season. There was action throughout the field, with some of the best wheel to wheel racing this season from Max Verstappen and Ricciardo.

Ricciardo gave a stella drive throughout the GP but ultimately got victory after Lewis Hamilton was denied it when his Mercedes engine failed once again leading him to finish the race in a cloud of smoke.

Nico Rosberg finished in third place after a tough race for the German. He started second on the grid but lost out in a collision on the first corner between him and Sebastian Vettel. Rosberg ended up at the back of the pack but fought his way through valiantly and managed to secure vital points for the World Championship Title.

Vettel had to retire from the race after the collision due to damage to his front suspension. Kevin Magnussen also picked up damage during the hectic first corner after being sandwiched between Daniil Kvyat and Esteban Gutierrez. Although Renault tried hard to fix the damage during the first safety car by changing wings and tyres, it wasn’t meant to be. Both Haas cars were unable to finish the race, Romain Grosjean had break failure and Gutierrez lost his front left tyre after exiting the pit lane. Felipe Nasr was also unable to finish the race.

Jenson Button finished in the points for his 300th Grand Prix, giving McLaren two points finishes with his team mate finishing P7 after starting the GP in last place.

Another Brit to do well was rookie Jolyon Palmer, he finished in 10th place, giving him is first Formula 1 point of his career.

Podium Interviews

Daniel Ricciardo: It’s such a hot race here. It was a race of challenges. Obviously Lewis got the lead and had his problems, so I feel… I’m not really one for believing in a whole lot, but obviously it went the other way in Monaco, so I’ll take this today. No hard feelings to Lewis, but I’ll definitely take the win. It’s been a pretty emotional two years since the last win and we’ve come so close this year. Two weeks ago after the race I said… well, we won this year, and here you go, we got there. Big thanks to Red Bull Racing and everybody who supported me through this journey – my mum, dad, my sister, I’ve got some family here, there are numerous people here. So, I’m extremely grateful for this. Thank you for all the support. It’s overwhelming to say the least.

Max Verstappen: But of course we were pushing the whole race. Definitely Daniel and I were pushing each other so we were going flat out so definitely after the race we had to take a break.

Nico Rosberg: First of all, yeah, Turn One, I though it was all over, so I’m really happy to be able to fight back in such a way all the way to the podium. That’s been great. Thank you very much to all of you here in Malaysia, you’ve been amazing all week and the support has been incredible. It’s been amazing to see that. In general, I wished for as better day today, but that’s the way it is sometimes.
